Drug and Alcohol Policy

IDEKE SHIPPING LTD recognizes the danger use of illicit drugs and alcohol can pose to health and work performance. The management of IDEKE is therefore committed to measures that will reduce and or totally eliminate the attendant risk to health, safety and the environment.

The Company frowns at the following:

  • Possession of, use and consumption of hard drugs, alcohol ; distribution or sale of controlled substances on company premises, vehicles or locations or during company working hours in and outside the company premises.
  • An employee being under the influence of alcohol or its paraphernalia at any time between reporting for duty and leaving the company premises or facilities.
  • Operating or driving company’s vehicle, cranes or marine equipment under the influence of alcohol or other illicit and controlled substances.

Therefore:

  • The company shall not employ any person who had been convicted for violating any Federal or state legislation against the use of alcohol or banned substances.
  • The company shall conduct trainings and educational programmes to educate employees and contractors on the negative consequences of taking drugs and thereby create awareness that shall assist in correcting and preventing the use and abuse of drugs.
  • The company reserves the right to test with or without notice its employees, contractors for the use of alcohol and illegal drugs.
  • Any alcohol found in the blood to be greater than 0.4g/liter is unacceptable and regarded as serious misconduct and therefore punishable.
  • The company shall conduct searches of alcohol and drugs at close intervals on locations, vehicles, and offices with or without notice to the employees.

-An employee found to be in possession of, consumption, sale and distribution of alcohol or illegal substances shall be issued a final warning letter.

-If such behavior continues and or where company finds out through routine searches that such trend has persisted, and or the employee is convicted by Federal or State legislation, or indicted by Clients’ policy on drugs while on company’s properties, including vehicles, barges and tugs, the affected employee will have his employment reviewed through measures including but not limited to suspension without pay and or termination of appointment
